Gingrich Attacks Labor’s Attack Ads

Associated Press

House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday that labor unions and the media - not his lack of popularity - will be to blame if the GOP loses control of the House on Election Day.

The AFL-CIO has said it will spend $35 million to help unseat congressional Republicans.

A swing of 18 seats in the Nov. 5 elections would throw control of the House to the Democrats, who lost Congress to the Republicans two years ago.

Asked if he would accept any of the blame if the GOP loses the House, Gingrich said, “I’d have played some (role), but the truth is without the union bosses we’d be gaining at least 30 seats.”
