St. George’s Girls Wear Unofficial B Crown

St. George’s placed four runners in the top 10 Saturday to win the girls title at the unofficial State B cross country meet in Wilbur.

Third-place Kyla McKelvey (20 minutes, 44 seconds) led the Dragons on the 3-mile Big Bend Country Club course.

St. George’s scored 25, runner-up Bridgeport-Mansfield 33.

Trout Lake’s Flora Pearson (20:12) won the girls race by 17 seconds.

Trout Lake’s Dusty Lopez (16:04) defended his boys title with an 11-second win over teammate Travis Pearson. The Mustangs, with 38 points, edged St. George’s (44) for the team title.

Wilbur-Creston coach Jim Cox organized the meet last year after the State B meet was combined with the State A. Cox registered more than 20 teams this year.

The St. George’s girls won the 1993 and ‘94 State B meets before the format changed to A/B.

Three inches of snow fell in Wilbur overnight, but race conditions were sunny.

Snow stalls girls sports

A half-foot accumulation of snow in the Colfax area kept Pullman from reaching its Frontier League soccer and volleyball matches at Colville. Both matches were tentatively rescheduled for Oct. 28.
