Yakima Wins Nwl

The Yakima Bears, given up for dead five weeks ago, won their first Northwest League baseball championship in 32 years with a 9-2 victory over Eugene on Sunday.

The Bears swept the best-of-three series 2-0.

Yakima won 24 of its last 29 games to qualify for the NWL playoffs and then swept Eugene, the league’s winningest team at 49-27.
