Janessa Daum Wins State Horse Competition

Janessa Daum, daughter of John and Diana Daum of Hayden Lake, won the state O-MOK-SEE 8-years-old and under competition held in Princeton, Idaho, in June.

Daum, now 9 years old, won with a high-point total score in timed events competition that included barrels, western jumping, figure eight and polebending with her appaloosa quarterhorse, Rosebud.

Daum has been a member of the Kootenai County Saddle Club for several years and began riding at the age of 2.

Bryan Settle, son of Chuck and Madeline Settle of Coeur d’Alene, has enlisted in the Army as a heavy-wheel vehicle mechanic and recently departed for basic training at Fort Sill, Okla.

Settle, a 1995 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate, qualifies for up to $30,000 under the Army College Fund due to test scores and enlistment choice.

Adam P. Hahn, son of Monica Hayes of Coeur d’Alene, has joined the Army’s Delayed Entry Program as a calvary scout and will depart for basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., in June of 1997.

Hahn, a senior at Project Coeur d’Alene Alternative High School, qualifies for up to $25,000 under the Army College Fund program due to his enlistment choice and high test scores.

Jarrod L. Towne, son of John Towne of Kellogg and Lynn Battleson of Pinehurst, has enlisted in the Army infantry (airborne), and recently departed for basic training at Fort Benning, Ga.

Towne, a 1996 graduate of Kellogg High School, joined the Army for travel and adventure.
