Local Students Receive Degrees From Ewu

The following Inland Northwest students received degrees from Eastern Washington University at the June 15 commencement (continued from Tuesday):

Spokane: Master of Arts: Anna Oakes.

Master of Fine Arts: Lewis Griffin.

Master of Business Education: Gregory Gerson, Gerald Irwin, Clinton Marvel and Andrew Taylor.

Master of Education: Maryellen Beach, Regan Gruis, Rachel Peters, Desiree Powell, Todd Spangler and Jennifer Vandine.

Master of Nursing: Vera Talseth.

Master of Science: Steffie Bergstrom, Donald Crawford, Sean House, Miwha Kim, Margaret Miller, Pamela Selby and Christopher Wood.

Master of Social Work: Kateri Bishop, Luann Brown, Janice Burbank, Mary Caraway, Tracy Cauble, Carol Crane-Dupree, Thomas Grieb, Paul Knaysi, Margie Langer, Judy Lippman, Gregory Pugh, Raymond Rieckers, Patricia Royse, Moses Spearchief, Barbara Steffen, Jason Whompson.

Katelyn Allers, 1996 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, received an annual $6,000 Presidential Award for Academics and a $3,500 talent award for playing the oboe. She also received a $1,000 Washington State PTA Scholarship. She is the daughter of James and Tracy Allers.

Air Force Capt. Matthew P. Miller received silver wings after graduating from the Air Force undergraduate pilot training program at Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock, Texas.

Miller, son of Ted and Colleen Miller, Spokane, is a 1987 graduate of Gonzaga Prep and a 1992 graduate of the Air Force Academy.

Three Inland Northwest girls from Girl Scout Troop 82 recently earned their Girl Scout Silver Awards, the highest award that can be earned as a Cadette Girl Scout.

The Scouts and their Silver Project are:

Jessica Hiner, Northwest Christian School, arranged a formal, sit-down dessert for Leader Appreciation Night, honoring the leaders and co-leaders of more than 25 troops in Girl Scout Service Unit 656.

Nicole Baca, St. Charles School, and Jessie Himmelman, Northwood Junior High, arranged a games badge workshop and Bridging activities for sixth-grade Junior Girl Scouts.

Amy Trudnowski was valedictorian of her class at Nine Mile Falls Elementary. She received three awards at the ceremony: Most Outstanding Award in Math, special recognition for Outstanding Achievement in Physical Education and the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. She is the daughter of Tim and Grace Trudnowski, Nine Mile Falls.
