Woman Injured In Head-On Wreck

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Sagle woman was seriously injured in a two-car accident that stalled traffic on U.S. Highway 95 for nearly two hours Tuesday.

Sally Dexter, 63, was southbound on the Long Bridge near Sandpoint when she crossed the center line and hit another vehicle head-on, according to the Idaho State Police.

Dexter was trapped in her 1985 Nissan for about 45 minutes before rescue crews freed her. She was flown to Kootenai Medical Center and listed in serious condition.

Dexter struck a Ford pickup driven by James Martin, 71, also of Sagle. Martin was treated for minor injuries. The passenger in his car, Ishmael Evans, 86, suffered a possible broken pelvis and minor head injuries.

A four-year-old passenger in Dexter’s vehicle also suffered minor injuries. Authorities said the occupants in both vehicles were wearing seat belts and the accident is still under investigation.

The crash closed both lanes of the Long Bridge for one hour and traffic was restricted to one lane for another hour.
