Eagles’ Ackerman To Miss Rest Of Season

T.J. Ackerman, a starting offensive guard on Eastern Washington’s 1-1 football team, will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during last Saturday’s 27-21 win at Boise State.

Ackerman, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound sophomore, injured his knee in the second quarter and is scheduled to undergo his second reconstructive surgery in less than a year later next month, EWU coach Mike Kramer said.

Kramer said Ackerman has already begun rehabilitating the injury prior to his surgery, “and he’ll probably know more about what to do than our trainers.”

“He’s becoming an expert at rehabilitating a knee,” Kramer said.

Ackerman, the brother of former Eastern standout Tom Ackerman, now a rookie with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, tore the ACL in his right knee during the fifth game of the 1995 season and missed spring practice while recovering from his first major

Justen Wochnick, a 6-2, 280-pound sophomore will replace Ackerman on Saturday.
