Police Warn Of Bogus Solicitor

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane police have received reports of someone soliciting money by telephone for the department’s new TEAM program.

Sgt. Michael Prim said there is no solicitation under way for the program, which replaces DARE.

Prim said the department will send letters to organizations and civic groups asking for support, but not to private individuals, and never by phone.

Police are asking that anyone receiving a phone call try to obtain a phone number, name or address of the bogus solicitor and report the information to Crime Check at 456-2233.

The TEAM program will be broader than DARE. Officers will not only provide drug and alcohol information, but a variety of other safety-related subjects. Officers will teach in public and private schools for grades K-8. , DataTimes
