Young Hunters Will Get First Shots At Waterfowl

Washington and Idaho have set aside special days for youth waterfowl hunting.

In Idaho, youths ages 12-15 will be allowed to hunt ducks on Sept. 28.

In Washington, the special hunt is set for Oct. 5 for ages under 16.

The move gives young hunters a head start on the regular hunting seasons for ducks and geese. Both states require the young hunters to be accompanied by an adult of at least 18 years of age.

Accompanying adults cannot shoot ducks during the youth hunt. However, Idaho will have an early goose hunt in certain areas that coincides with the youth hunt. In that case, adults would be able to hunt.

Youth hunters must have a hunting license but are not required to purchase duck stamps. Youth hunters must prove completion of a hunter education course.
