Greater Spokane League Soccer

The Greater Spokane League boys soccer season began last week but is off this week for spring break.

Defending champion: Mead

Postseason results: Mead and Gonzaga Prep advanced from the district tournament, with Mead finishing second in state.

New coaches: Craig Busch, Mead; Tim Cox, North Central; Robin Crane, Ferris.

All-league returners: First team - midfielders Jed Druffel, G-Prep (injured) and Zach Kingsley, Shadle Park; defender Jon Guenther, Lewis and Clark. Second team - forward Josh Melcher, University; midfielders John Harnetiaux, LC, Abbas Faridnia, Ferris, and Grant Falco, U-Hi; keeper Ryan Wittstruck, G-Prep.

Key injuries: Prep lost Druffel. CV lost Derrick Adams, a three-year starter at keeper, with a stress fracture in his right foot.

Makeup: Mead and Ferris were scheduled to play last Friday but the game has been moved to April 25.

Predicted order of finish: Mead, Ferris, U-Hi, GP, SP, Central Valley, NC, LC, Rogers.
