Elections In Rosalia, Garfield, Tekoa

From Staff And Wire Reports

Voters in Rosalia, Garfield and Tekoa will decide special election propositions today.

Rosalia residents are voting on whether to form their own public hospital district. The city has no legal taxing authority to make improvements on a small health clinic without forming its own hospital district.

The city of Tekoa is proposing a $15,000 levy to cover salary, wages, maintenance and operation of the Tekoa Community Center. The levy amounts to $1.09 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

In Garfield, voters in three different rural areas will decide whether or not to join Garfield’s public hospital district. Because the proposition affects only about 30 residents, the vote is being conducted with absentee ballots.

Polls in Rosalia and Tekoa will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. , DataTimes
