Man Accused Of Pouring Gas On Girlfriend

A Spokane man was jailed Sunday after authorities said he poured gasoline over his girlfriend’s head while she smoked a cigarette.

Samuel R. Wininger, 21, was in jail Monday on charges of first-degree assault and second-degree malicious mischief.

Spokane police officers were called to a home in the 3500 block of East Broad about 6 p.m. Sunday. They saw Wininger leave and throw a rock through a parked car window, police said.

A 20-year-old woman in the home told officers she was afraid Wininger would light her on fire after pouring gasoline over her. Officers said they could smell gas on the victim.
