‘Stupid’ Thieves Set Building Ablaze

Two teenagers attempting to steal gasoline from a darkened garage accidentally set it on fire when they used a lighter to illuminate the area, a Lewis County sheriff’s spokesman said.

It’s the “stupid crime of the week,” Chief Criminal Deputy Gordon Spanski said. Timothy D. Compton, 18, of Puyallup, Wash., and a 17-year old from Shelton, Wash., were arrested Sunday at the scene of the fire, Spanski said.
