Police Seek Help For Burned-Out Family

Spokane police are collecting clothes and household merchandise for a family burned out of its home Monday.

Flames destroyed an apartment on West College about 2:10 a.m. - and all the possessions of a family of five.

Firefighters said a stuffed chair placed too close to a wood-burning stove likely started the fire. No one was hurt.

The family - a man, woman and three girls, ages 15, 6 and 14 months - reportedly had no renters’ insurance.

Police are collecting donations of linens, beds, dishes and furniture. The family also needs clothing.

The man wears medium-sized shirts and pants with a 30-inch waist and 34-inch inseam. The woman wears medium sizes.

The oldest girl wears small sizes. The 6-year-old takes size-7 clothes, while the 14-month old wears size 1.

Police also are soliciting presents for the girls. The teenager is hoping for a pair of Nike Air shoes, while the 6-year-old wants a “My Size Barbie.” The baby needs clothes.

Donations should be taken to the COPS West substation at 1901 W. Boone. Residents should call 625-3340 to make sure the substation is open before dropping off any merchandise.
