From Staff And Wire Reports

Idaho State scored the game’s first nine points and then survived some frigid second-half shooting Thursday night to capture a 59-47 Big Sky Conference road win over error-prone Eastern Washington University at Reese Court.

The Bengals (11-10 overall, 7-4 in the Big Sky) got 18 points from Teresa Mallak and 16 points and 12 rebounds from Stacy Nelson. But their biggest asset was the defensive pressure that forced EWU (4-16, 1-9) into 29 turnovers.

The careless Eagles, who were paced by Tanya Kirk’s 22 points, turned the ball over six times before scoring their first points on a Shana Ray layin more than 4 minutes into the game.

They committed 13 more turnovers before halftime and trailed 36-22 at intermission.

ISU, despite shooting just 28.1 percent (9 for 32) in the second half and 31.5 percent (17 for 54) for the game, built its halftime lead to 54-32 before the Eagles fought back to make the final score respectable.
