Glen Lambert Lakeside Year: Senior Sport: Basketball Position: Point Guard

With Lakeside High School’s leading scorer Andrew Twiss out with an injury, the Knights, ranked first in the state in A-4, had to find someone to pick up the slack.

Naturally, it was senior point guard Glen Lambert. In a three-game stretch, Lambert showed why coach Greg Stutzman decided to hand him the reins of the Knights, a team with enough talent to win it all.

“He brings our team a lot of leadership,” Stutzman said. “He recognizes things on the floor offensively and defensively that others don’t.”

The 5-foot-9 Lambert pointed to his finest game last week as a win over Kootenai when he scored 21 points. Stutzman, however, was more impressed with Lambert’s play against Culdesac when he only scored eight points, but also had eight assists and five rebounds.

“Glen has always judged himself by points scored, but he’s getting to the point where he also is playing great defense and passing the ball well, which he’ll have to do to succeed on the next level,” Stuzman said.

With the addition of the 6-foot-5 Twiss this season to complement the outside shooting of Lambert and James Twoteeth, Lakeside has one of the deadliest inside-out teams in A-4. The Knights came in second last season with a loss to Nampa in a close championship game. Lambert thinks that with Twiss and Brendon Nelson in the middle, Lakeside can overcome the lack of an inside presence that hurt them at state last year.

“Other teams are now focusing on denying the ball to Twiss, so that leaves us open to launch it from outside,” Lambert said.

Lambert said he’s become comfortable bringing the ball up the court, and has overcome his instinct to try and dribble out of traps.

This season has been the best of his three years on varsity and he is looking to extract a measure of revenge on the rest of the A-4.

“We don’t get recognized by the rest of the state, and that bugs me,” Lambert said. “I’ve been waiting all year to get another shot at Nampa, and this time we’ll be ready.”
