Charges Filed For Growing Pot

Charges were filed Friday against a Spokane couple accused of growing marijuana at a South Hill church.

Thomas Heal, 51, and his 36-year-old wife, Deborah, were charged with manufacturing a controlled substance. They are expected to surrender to deputies Monday.

The charges stem from a Jan. 3 raid at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 12th and Grand.

Deputies acting on a tip found 21 pot plants in the couple’s apartment, which is located in the basement of the church. Thomas Heal works as a caretaker at St. John’s.
