Warren Christopher Falls, Breaks Wrist

Compiled From Wire Services

Warren Christopher fell and broke his left wrist while cleaning out the garage of his home Monday on his last day as secretary of state.

Christopher, 71, was taken to Georgetown Hospital by his security detail and was treated and released. He then was taken directly to the airport, where he boarded a flight for Los Angeles.

Christopher had attended President Clinton’s inauguration and had returned to his home in Georgetown, where he and his wife, Marie, were preparing for their move back to Southern California.

State Department spokeswoman Nancy Beck said Christopher fell while cleaning out his garage, but she had no information about what had caused him to fall.
