Associated Press

Cynthia Cooper set a WNBA record by scoring 30 points Friday night as the Houston Comets routed the Sacramento Monarchs 82-60.

Cooper, who made six 3-pointers, scored 14 points in the first 6:12 of the second half. Her 3-pointer with 13:48 left broke the record of 29 set by Charlotte’s Andrea Stinson.

It was the Comets’ second straight lopsided victory over the Monarchs, who were beaten 89-61 at Houston last week.

Tina Thompson finished with 18 points for Houston and Janeth Arcain had 15.

Ahead 40-25 at halftime, the Comets built the lead to 20 in the first three minutes of the second half.
