Oregon State Wins Banana Belt

Oregon State University downed host Lewis Clark State College 7-2 Sunday to win the Banana Belt baseball tournament after slump-ridden Washington State blitzed Gonzaga 21-3.

OSU (9-5-1) finished the tournament with a 4-1-1 record. LC State (7-2-1) wound up 3-1-1.

Brad Philley hit two home runs and drove home four runs to fuel Washington State’s one-sided victory. The Cougars (2-14) used a 23-hit attack to end an eight-game losing streak. Leading 11-3, they added 10 runs in the seventh inning, when Philley belted his second homer. Donnie Murrell and Travis Knight had three hits each for Gonzaga (1-2-1), which left 12 men on base.
