Cheney Track Team Tops Clarkston

The Cheney boys track team stayed in the thick of the Frontier League by defeating Clarkston 87-58 at home last Thursday.

Gino Williams won the 100 meters with a time of 11.9 and Ty Tait finished a close third in 12.4 seconds. In the 400 meters, Tim Pederson finished third with a time of 59.1. Brandon Eggert ran the 800 meters in 2:07.0 to finish third.

Scott Spaulding finished second in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:49.8. In the 3,200 meters, Tait finished second in 11:10.0., and Ryan Shanahan finished a very close third with a time of 11:10.1.

Mike Caskey edged out teammate Jason Miller to win the 100 high hurdles with a time of 17.1. Miller finished with a time of 17.2. Caskey also won the 300 low hurdles in 43.9 seconds and brother Will Caskey finished third with a time of 1:04.6.

Cheney won the 1,600-meter relay in 3:49.4. Pat Heeren won the discus with a throw of 122 feet 9 inches, and Paulo Tabino finished second with 115-4.

In the javelin, Josh Stoddard won with a toss of 151-0. Tabino won the shot put with a throw of 44-7.

In the high jump, August Parker cleared 5-10 to finish second and then won the long jump with a distance of 19-8. Williams finished a close second with a jump of 19-2.

Parker’s combined jumps of 41-1/2 were good enough to win the high jump. Johnny Patterson finished in third with a jump of 38-6. Tait won the pole vault by clearing 10-6, and teammates Gabe Shaffer and Patterson finished vaulted 10-0.

Cheney girls track

Cheney’s girls also came away with a win, 88-58, at the meet against Clarkston.

Share Wilske finished second in the 100 meters in 13.6 seconds, and Nacirema Williams finished third in 13.9. Wilske finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 28.9, and Williams finished third in 29.9.

Sherri Irwin won the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.5, and Anna Getz finished second in 1:08.0. Jeannette Zimmer crossed the line in 2:30.6 to win the 800 meters, and Casey Reser finished third with a time of 3:07.3.

In the 1,600 meters, Jessica Cannon finished second with a time of 7:35.6, and Emily Skama finished third in 8:10.1. Zimmer also won the 3,200 meters in 11:35.9.

Reser finished second with a time of 14:18.8, and Skama finished third in 17:15.9.

In the 100 high hurdles, Lani McLauchlin finished first with a time of 20.2. Nina Boline finished second in 21.0, and Marin Wolfe came in third with a time of 21.7.

McLauchlin also won the 300 hurdles with a score of 57.2, and Boline finished third in 59.9.

Cheney won the 400 relay in 57.3 seconds and the 1,600 relay in 4:55.8.

Victoria Abbot won the discus with a throw of 103-8, and Amy White finished second with a toss of 101-10. In the javelin, Getz finished second with a throw of 95-7. White’s throw of 31-2 yielded her third place in the shot put.

Charisse Oyoloker finished second in the high jump with a leap of 4-6, and Getz finished third with a jump of 4-4. Brittney Talmadge finished second in the long jump with 4-11, and Kadee Anderson finished third with a jump of 14-7.

In the triple jump, Talmadge finished third with a combined jump of 32-4.

Nicole Hilyard won the pole vault by clearing 7-0.

GSL track

The Ferris boys ran past North Central, 93-51, and Shadle Park, 75.5-69.5, last Thursday.

Despite not having as much depth as other teams in the league, Ferris has been able to win its past two meets, said coach Jim Fisher.

“We’re a very young team,” he said. Fisher said Ferris’ goal is to get several athletes to state.

Jonathon Parker ran an 11.2 in the 100 meters and a 23.0 in the 200 meters to take first place in both events.

Parker also won the 400 meters with a time of 51.6. Teammate Kevin Zickler finished a close second in 52.6 seconds.

Andy Brown won the 800 meters in 2:03.5, and Isaac Hawkins won the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:16.2. Brown finished third, coming in at 4:31.2.

Hawkins also won the 3,200 meters in 9:45.6. Dan Schruth placed second with a time of 9:46.4.

In the 110 high hurdles and 300 low hurdles, Tyrone Asterino won with respective times of 15.8 and 40.6.

Ferris finished first in the 400 relay with a time of 44.5 seconds. Runners were Asterino, Ty Williams, Joe Bourg and Parker.

In the field events, James Missel finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 121 feet. Tim Lynch also finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 131-4.

Charlie Gordon cleared 6-4 to win the high jump. Jeremy Bowman finished in third place with a height of 5-6, and teammate Marty White also cleared 5-6.

Williams finished first with a score of 19-9-1/2 to win the long jump, and Bourg finished second with a jump of 19-7. In the triple jump, Gordon finished third with a combined jump of 39-6-1/2.

Williams placed fourth with a jump of 39-0. Williams also won the pole vault with a throw of 13-0, and Nate Olson tied for third at 9-6.

Ferris girls track

Shadle Park edged the Saxons 71-70, but Ferris took its revenge on North Central, 124-16.

Shayla Bush finished second in the 100 meters in 13.1. She finished third in the 200 meters, with 27.0, and Missy Blackshire came in fourth in 27.3 seconds. Blackshire won the 400 meters with a time 1:00.4.

Mariah McConnaughey won the 800 meters in 2:25.0, and Emily Hawkins finished third in 2:28.6. In the 1,600 meters, Jennifer Smith won with a time of 5:02.6, and Jill Johnson finished second in 5:25.6.

Smith also won the 3,200 meters in 10.50.1, and Hawkins was right behind her with a time of 11.49. Kim Canaday finished third in 12.32.

In the 100 high hurdles, Julie Weatherred came in second with a time of 17.1, Brenda Klein finished third (17.3), and Julie Cummings finished fourth (17.8).

In the 300 low hurdles Weatherred finished third with a time of 51.7, and Cummings finished fourth (51.9).

Ferris won the 1,600 relay as Johnson, McConnaughey, Smith and Blackshire finished in 4:05.6.

In the discus, Amy George finished fourth with a toss of 97-11. Kerri Pruett won the javelin with a throw of 95-6, and Sarah Lunstrum finished fourth (79-9).

Weatherred won the long jump with a leap of 15-4-1/2, Jenna Major finished third (14-5-1/4) and Tricia Hoppe finished fourth (14-1-1/2). In the triple jump, Weatherred won with a combined jump of 32-5, and McConnaughey finished second (32-0).

Blackshire finished third in the high jump (5-0), and Brazzle finished fourth (4-8).

LC track

In other league action Central Valley and Mead defeated the Lewis and Clark Tigers, 98-45 and 124-21.

Nick Spurgetis finished fourth in the 100 and 200 meters with respective times of 11.5 and 23.8. Bryce Stack won the 400 meters in 51.4 seconds.

In the 800 meters, Cory Johnson finished third with a time of 1:59.7. Joey Neuman finished third in the 1,600 meters in 4:34.1, and Nick Volner finished fourth in 4.37.

Noel Vaughn finished fourth in the 3,200 meters in 10.14.0, and Jason Rayson tied for second in the high jump with a jump of 5-10.

The LC girls also lost to Mead and CV, 90-42 and 84-49, respectively.

LC standout Teresa Brooks won three individual events: the 100 meters (12.4), 200 meters (25.9) and 400 meters (57.9).

Christine Benedetti finished second in the 800 meters in 2:29.1 and Jamie Borgan won the 1,600 meters in 5.23.0. Borgan also finished second in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11:48.7.

In the 100 high hurdles, Jessica Filo, finished second in 17.4.

The Tigers won the 1,600 relay as Jamie Rosenquist, Benedetti, Keri Nichols and Gina Auffant finished in 4:10.6. Emily Barnes finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 91-8.

Benedetti finished fourth in the long jump (4-10) and the triple jump (32-5-1/2).
