Police Hold Man On Assault, Elusion Charges

Spokane police arrested a man they say smashed his car into a pursuing patrol cruiser Wednesday.

Kendrick Brookins, 30, was charged with three counts of first-degree assault and one count of attempting to elude a police officer.

The incident took place in north Spokane about 12:15 a.m. when police tried to pull Brookins over for failing to signal a turn, according to court records.

Officers say in an affidavit of probable cause that Brookins sped away, then twice rammed one police car and tried to hit another.

He later abandoned his car and ran away.

Officers caught up with him in the 3400 block of North Division.

Police say they found two crack cocaine pipes on Brookins when they arrested him.

Brookins, who has no felony record in Spokane County, is being held in jail on $40,000 bond.
