Brett Kaiser Mead Year: Senior Sport: Tennis

Two consecutive Inland Empire tournament championships in hand, and four consecutive league titles wrapped up, Brett Kaiser is ready for the final push.

Mead boys tennis coach Bill Wagstaff, for one, said Kaiser is part of the strongest doubles team the school has assembled in 20 years.

Kaiser and partner Tory Gambill, a freshman, begin their State AAA tournament quest today, as the District 8-AAA tournament opens its three-day run.

Gambill and Kaiser won at the 52nd I.E. tourney last Saturday, then played singles Tuesday as Mead finished an 8-0 season for its fourth straight Greater Spokane League title.

“This is the year to do well (in postseason) because this is it for me,” said Kaiser, a four-year letterman.

Kaiser is striving for his third consecutive state tourney appearance. He qualified with Mike Foils in 1995 and last year with Eric Donovan, his partner during the I.E. championship run.

“Brett’s a much stronger player than he was last year, in my mind, and Tory’s a much stronger player than (Brett’s) been with,” Wagstaff said.

Singles players all year, Kaiser and Gambill are working out the kinks on the court.

“We’re just trying to get our games together to get to the top,” Kaiser said.
