Three-Alarm Blaze Damages Popular Seattle Restaurant

Associated Press

A three-alarm fire at a popular waterfront restaurant on Shilshole Bay burned for more than six hours Friday before firefighters were able to put it out, authorities said.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze at Ray’s Boathouse was not immediately known, Seattle Fire Department officials said.

The restaurant was rebuilt after it was destroyed in another fire 10 years ago this month. That $2 million blaze was started by faulty electrical wiring.

Friday’s fire, which appeared to have started in a lower kitchen area and burned beneath the piers, was first noticed by a woman cleaning the restaurant.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control after the ebbing tide allowed them to get under the restaurant.

About 80 firefighters responded.

No other buildings and no boats were threatened by the fire, said fire department spokeswoman Georgia Taylor.

No damage estimate was immediately available.

The restaurant hopes to reopen in 10 days, KING-TV reported.
