Caterer Drops Plan To Lease Salty’s

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane catering business is backing out of plans to lease the former Salty’s at the Falls restaurant after learning the monthly power bill exceeds the rent.

“After looking at the numbers, they realized they couldn’t make this work for them,” said Dennis Beringer, the city’s real estate director. “The gas and utilities run $3,000 a month.”

The city planned to lease the building to J.E.S. for You Food Inc., for $2,500 a month for 18 months.

Beringer told the City Council on Tuesday he would keep looking for a temporary tenant. The city bought the property for $2.78 million in March to make way for the Lincoln Street Bridge project.

“The main issue is the short-term lease,” Beringer said. “Most everybody wants it for three years minimum.” , DataTimes
