Evans Helps Chiefs Overrun T-Birds Spokane, 6-1 Away From Home, Finishes Seattle In Third Period

Blake Evans scored a pair of third-period goals Sunday to help the Spokane Chiefs pull away from the Seattle Thunderbirds for a 6-1 Western Hockey League victory.

Evans made it 4-1 after 7 minutes, 51 seconds of the final period when he intercepted the puck at center ice and drove up the left wing for a slap shot that produced his fifth goal of the season. He capped the scoring, assisted by Trent Whitfield and Perry Johnson, on the power play at 15:06.

The Chiefs, who return home to entertain Calgary on Wednesday night, boosted their road record to 6-1. They are 11-5 overall.

Spokane opened Sunday’s scoring at 12:04 of the first period when Marc Brown fed Kyle Rossiter who deflected the puck off a Seattle defenseman and into the net.

After Seattle tied it at 14:38, Greg Leeb’s wrap-around goal at 4:38 of the second period put the Chiefs in front to stay.

Leading scorer Marian Cisar picked up his 23rd point of the year when he passed to Ty Jones, who knocked in his 11th goal of the season at the 15:33 mark.

Cisar sandwiched a goal of his own, his 16th, between the two goals by Evans in the third period.

Spokane, which had suffered through a scoreless streak of 16 consecutive power plays, now has tallied on 4 of 6. The Chiefs scored on 3 of 5 Sunday.
