Scouts Conduct Food Drive

From Staff And Wire Reports

Inland Northwest Scout troops hope to collect 150,000 pounds of food today in a door-to-door campaign for the Spokane Food Bank.

The campaign began last week, when Boy and Cub Scouts asked Spokane County residents to leave bags of food on their porches. They return to collect the food today.

Food bank officials request that donation bags left outside be clearly marked “Scouting for Food.”

Food also can be dropped off at First Nazarene Church, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd.; United Paint and Coating, 19011 Cataldo; and the food bank, 1234 E. Front.

High-protein items - such as stews, chili, tuna and powdered milk - are requested. Canned fruits and vegetables also are needed.

More than 13,000 people a month seek help from the food bank, a 10 percent increase from last year. Increasing numbers of people served are from the ranks of the working poor, squeezed by rent increases and low wages. , DataTimes
