Heidi Craig, West Valley senior, has been named a 1998 National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist.

Andrew Chan and Dave Rutherford of Jenkins High, and Sarah Harris and Tracy Hansen of West Valley were awarded Commended Student certificates for the 1998 National Merit Scholarship Program. They are among the 35,000 of 50,000 of the top performers on the PSAT/NMSQT.

Dawn Bonser, Riverside sophomore, took 1st place in the senior division at the Deer Park Pee Wee Rodeo.

The Central Valley marching band took the sweepstakes awards at The Calvacade of Bands, Spokane Lilac Festival and Sunset Marching Festival competitions.

Anngela Groke, Medical Lake senior, sponsored a toy drive for children and collected more than 3,000 toys for the kids.

Ferris debater Lincoln Ellis was named “Best Speaker” at the Lake City High competition recently. Sean Avant took second place in extemporaneous speaking and Katie LaPlante took second in expository speaking. Mark Toews took third in humorous interpretation.

Amanda Rogers, Deer Park senior, took first place in the state public speaking contest for Future For Agriculture, earning the right to compete at nationals.

Courtney Gower, Rogers freshman, earned the Silver Award for Girl Scouts by collect toys that were auctioned off, raising $300 for the school.

Tiffany Clute, Liberty High junior, was selected to represent her school in STAT - Spokane Teens Against Tobacco and at the state conferences.

Bridgette O’Dwyer, St. Maries senior, was named Most Valuable Player by Intermountain League volleyball coaches.
