Idaho Drops Another, But Shows Progress Nbc Thunder Uses Rally To Overcome UI 72-64

The University of Idaho men’s basketball team lost its second exhibition game of the preseason, but coach David Farrar found some bright spots in the play of the Vandals Monday.

“At times, we played much better against a considerably better opponent,” Farrar said after a 72-64 loss to a talented NBC Thunder team before 531 fans at Memorial Gym. “The coach is never happy in situations like this, but we are a lot further along.”

That showed early, particularly in the play of the guards. Florida State transfer Avery Curry was judicious in his shot selection and connected on 8 of 17 shots, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range, to finish with 20 points. His leadership surfaced elsewhere in his four assists and three steals.

Senior guard Kris Baumann added 11 points and sophomore Jon Harris accounted for 10.

Idaho led by as many as 18 points in the first half, but couldn’t offset the balanced attack from NBC Thunder’s Nico Harrison, Tyrone McDaniel and Shann Ferch, who triggered a run by the Spokane-based team that closed it to 40-33 at halftime.

“I think fatigue had something to do with it, but I also think the talent of the opponent had something to do with it,” Farrar said of NBC’s run.

The Thunder took the lead for good on McDaniel’s jumper with 14:48 to play.
