Loans Available For Energy-Saving Projects

From Staff And Wire Reports

Low-interest loans are available for energy-saving home improvements through the Idaho Energy Division of the Idaho Department of Water Resources.

The agency provides five-year loans at a 4 percent interest rate to purchase and install insulation, space heating systems and water heaters for existing homes. Loan amounts range from $1,000 to $10,000.

Space heating systems include purchasing or replacing a wood, pellet or gas stove. Conversions from electric to gas heat are not financed.

Commercial loans from $1,000 to $100,000 also are available for lighting retrofits, windows and doors, insulation, space heating and the revision of ventilating and air conditioning in existing structures.

Agricultural loans are available for energy-efficient irrigation systems. Projects involving renewable resources are eligible. Renewable resources include solar, wind, geothermal, hydropower and biomass.
