Police Use Tear Gas To Break Up Riot At Uo
Officers used tear gas against a crowd of 200 to 300 people Saturday night when a party near the University of Oregon campus evolved into what police described as a riot, with rocks and bottles thrown at their patrol cars.
Four people were arrested on charges ranging from disorderly conduct to underage drinking, drug violations, rioting and assault. All were being held at the Lane County Jail.
Police said it was the same site of two large weekend parties broken up by police using tear gas in the spring and fall of 1995.
The party’s hosts said they tried to cooperate with police, but the party had just grown too big, partly because it had live music, they said Sunday.
