Dollar Dips Against Japanese Yen

The dollar fell against the Japanese yen Monday, weighed down by comments from a key finance ministry official that the Japanese economy may soon rebound.

Strength in U.S. financial markets helped revive the dollar from its early decline against the German mark. But its gains were capped by continued speculation that the German central bank may soon raise interest rates.

“We saw a lot of washing back and forth for currencies today,” said Kevin Harris, international economist at MCM Currencywatch in New York. “But there wasn’t a true direction of where the market was going.”
