Cheney Scores 18 In Rout Of Clarkston

Cheney routed Clarkston 18-0 in a Frontier League soccer match Thursday at Cheney.

Kadee Anderson had three goals and Brittany Talmedge, Tanya Birchler, Kristen Stewart and Laurie Regnier had two each.

The Blackhawks (3-2-1, 1-0) took 40 shots on goal. Clarkston (2-3-0, 0-1) had no shots on goal.

Heather Schumacher scored two goals in East Valley’s 6-0 shutout over West Valley in a Frontier League match. EV is 5-2-0, 1-0, and WV dropped to 4-3-0, 0-1.

Allison Biggs’ goal at the 61st minute lifted Medical Lake past host Colville 1-0 in a Great Northern League match. The Cardinals improved to 3-2-3 and the Indians slipped to 3-3-2.

At Chewelah, Pullman (5-1-1) took 38 shots on goal that resulted in a 10-1 win over the Cougars (0-7-0) in a Great Northern League match.

In another GNL match, Deer Park (2-3-3) beat Lakeside (1-5-1) 3-0 behind two goals by Amanda Plummer and another by Jessica Fielder.

Volleyball

In a Great Northern League volleyball match at Deer Park, the Stags defeated Medical Lake 15-1, 15-6, 9-15, 15-12. Gina Bendowsky led Deer Park with 16 kills. Jessica Muelken landed nine for Medical Lake.

Nikki Petticrew landed 13 kills and Linsey Heebink added 10 to pace visiting Lakeside past Riverside 15-1, 15-3 in a GNL match. The Eagles improved to 5-4 and the Rams dropped to 0-9.

Cross country

Riverside’s Bill Warner clocked a first-place finish in 16 minutes, 50 seconds but Colville won the Great Northern League meet 20-39 on the 3.1-mile Bear Lake course. Colville’s Skyler Johnson finished in 16:51. Colville won the girls race over Riverside 28-29 behind Crystal Evans’ 20:51 time. Riverside’s Nora Zaprzalka finished second at 21:09.

Cheney’s Kevin Mahoney came from behind to pace the Cheney boys to a 20-35 Frontier League win over Clarkston at Cheney. Mahoney finished the 3-mile course in 18:20.

In girls competition, Cheney’s Rose Lathrup led wire-to-wire and captured individual honors in 23:11. Clarkston won the meet with 20 points. Cheney forfeited its score because it didn’t have enough runners.

At East Valley, the Knights beat West Valley 23-36 in a Frontier League meet behind Jim Marlow’s 16:59 time.

In girls’ competition, EV romped over WV 15-47 behind Melissa Frostad’s 20:36.

Football

Curlew defeated the Colville junior varsity team 28-20 behind two touchdown runs by Caleb Edwards.
