Associated Press

Five people were injured Thursday in a collision involving at least five vehicles on a foggy stretch of U.S. Highway 93 near here.

Hazardous material was spilled in another wreck near the road’s junction with state Highway 40.

The Montana Highway Patrol said the crash just north of Polson involved a pickup, which was towing a horse trailer, that struck the rear of a tractor-trailer rig.

At least three other vehicles also crashed, but a tour bus narrowly missed the wreckage.

The accident was reported shortly after 10 a.m.

Officials said at least one of the people hurt suffered critical injuries.

Other details about the wreck and the accident near the state Highway 40 junction, were unavailable.

There were no immediate reports of injuries in connection with the accident involving the spill. The highway there was closed.
