Change Batteries In Smoke Detectors

Spokane Fire Department officials remind residents to change the batteries in their smoke detectors when they set their clocks back to Standard Time this weekend.

Standard Time goes back into effect in the pre-dawn hours Sunday.

It’s also a good idea to check the working condition of all detectors, fire officials say. Like any product, detectors wear out.

Each year, about 1,100 children die in house fires in the United States. Ninety percent of those deaths occur in homes without working smoke detectors, authorities say.
