Right To Bear Arms

The One Arm Dove Hunt, which began as a lighthearted contest among local amputees, has grown into an annual two-day hunt that draws more than 100 participants from around the country to Olney, Texas, a sleepy farming town 100 northwest of Dallas. The only requirement is that the hunter lack a hand or an arm. Or two. Co-founder Jack Bishop, above left, who was born with only one arm, is a former county commissioner known as one of Olney’s “one-armed Jacks.” The other being cohort Jack Northrup, who lost an arm in a traffic accident. This year’s 26th annual shoot begins Friday, and many contestants expect to bag their 12-dove limit.
