Five Cities Bid For Games
The first international multi-sports event strictly for women hopes to have a site for its inaugural edition picked by the middle of next month from a list of five finalists.
The Women’s Global Challenge said that potential host sites had been narrowed to Phoenix; San Diego; Washington; Disney’s Wide World of Sports near Orlando, Fla.; and New York’s Nassau County.
The event, set for spring 1999 and sponsored by the Women’s Sports Foundation, will feature top female athletes from around the world in eight sports - figure skating, basketball, gymnastics, track, swimming, diving, soccer and beach volleyball.
