Three Seek Return To Kmc Board Retired Engineer Only Non-Incumbent Running In Tuesday’s Election

Four people are on the ballot for Tuesday’s Kootenai Hospital District board election, and all have some experience with the operations of Kootenai Medical Center.

Three seats are open on the seven-member board. Each board member serves a six-year term and is elected at large. The board governs the operations of KMC, a public district hospital.

Three of the four candidates are incumbents.

The only non-incumbent running is John Fox, who recently retired as chief engineer in the KMC engineering and maintenance department after 19 years of employment. Fox also has served on the Hayden Lake Recreational Water and Sewer District board, is a Navy veteran and has been involved in several local service organizations.

Incumbent Betty McLain, vice chair of the board, has served on the board since 1990. McLain also has been on the governing boards of North Idaho College, the Women’s Center, Museum of North Idaho and the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.

James Curtis also has served on the hospital district board for eight years and has been a Kootenai Medical Center staff physician since 1975. He previously was on the board of directors of the KMC Foundation.

Paul Anderson, area manager for Washington Water Power Co., is the newest board member, having served since September. He is past president and a former board member of the KMC Foundation and is involved in several local organizations, such as Concerned Businesses of North Idaho, Jobs Plus, the EXCEL Foundation and others.

Write-in candidates can be added to the ballot at the polls.

All registered voters in Kootenai County are eligible to vote in the hospital district election.
