Irs Plans Session To Solve Problems

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Internal Revenue Service seldom gets a pat on the back.

If Wednesday’s Problem Solving Day in Spokane goes true to form, the federal tax collectors will be treated to about 50.

Spokesman Tim Harms said about 30 people have already made reservations to meet with one of the IRS representatives who will be at the U.S. Courthouse to help sort out problems that may have been years in the making.

At sessions in other cities, he said, an equal number have come in without an appointment. Either way, surveys of those who participated showed 85 percent were very satisfied with the results.

IRS representatives will be available from noon to 8 p.m. Reservations are still being taken at 1-800-829-1040.

Harms said the program is not designed for those who want their 1997 tax forms filled out, but volunteer preparers will be present to handle those chores if the forms are simple.
