Nature’s Light Show

Beginning at the right, three phases of Thursday’s total eclipse of the sun - before, during and after - are seen in this time-elapsed, multiple-exposure photograph taken in Valledupar, on the northern coast of Colombia. The eclipse, on which the moon blocked all but the sun’s corona, or fringe, was seen most prominently in the Galapagos Islands, Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire, Montserrat, Antigua, Guadeloupe and the northern regions of Venezuela and Colombia.
