Fuel Spill May Be Cover-Up

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 9,300-gallon fuel spill at the Cenex Supply and Marketing fuel-storage plant apparently was an attempt to cover up the theft of 30,000 gallons of fuel, authorities say.

Franklin County Sheriff Richard Lathim on Wednesday confirmed the missing fuel appears to have been stolen.

Cenex spokeswoman Lani Jordan declined to speculate about possible suspects.

The spill was labeled suspicious almost immediately. While 40,000 gallons of fuel were reported drained from four tanks, emergency crews found only a fraction of that at the site.
