Michigan Fans Cheer Rose Bowl Victory

Associated Press

Ann Arbor police shut down about a block of a university street Thursday night as crowds of Michigan fans celebrated the Wolverines’ Rose Bowl victory and probable national championship.

About 10 p.m., less than 2 hours after Michigan finished its first-ever 12-0 season with a 21-16 win over Washington State, Sgt. Thomas Tanner said a peaceful crowd of about 350 people was waving flags and singing the school’s fight song.

“They’re just out there chanting and cheering,” Tanner said. “One of the other sergeants said it’s just women with young children out there, because everyone else is at the game.”

The crowd was a little larger an hour earlier, with about 500 people crowding the street.
