Huskies Crush Asu

Pac-10 men

Todd MacCulloch had 30 points and a career-high 21 rebounds to lead the Washington Huskies to a 92-70 victory over Arizona State in a Pac-10 game Thursday night in Seattle.

The 7-foot junior center from Canada was too much inside for the smaller Sun Devils to contain, hitting 14 of 22 shots from the floor. His baskets were layups and short shots until he had a dunk with 2:28 to go.

Washington (9-2, 2-0 Pac-10) won easily despite having a horrible night at the free-throw line, where it was 13 for 30, including 9 for 24 in the second half.

Deon Luton scored 17 points and Patrick Femerling, Washington’s 7-1 forward from Germany, had 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Huskies outrebounded the Sun Devils 56-37.

For Arizona State (11-5, 1-2), Mike Batiste scored 16 points and Jeremy Veal 14. Bobby Lazor had 13 rebounds for the Sun Devils.

After leading handily at halftime, Washington came out and scored the first five points of the second half to take a 52-32 lead before the Sun Devils, using a full-court press, came back.

Batiste’s fast-break layup cut the Huskies’ lead to 72-60 with 5:56 left before MacCulloch responded with a layup and a 5-footer and Luton connected on a 16-footer and a 3-pointer that put Washington in front 81-60 with 4:04 left.
