Wilbur-Creston Gains First Place

Wilbur-Creston rose to the top of the Bi-County League’s West Division Saturday by overcoming a 10-point deficit to defeat Sprague-Harrington 62-52 at Wilbur.

Bryan Marchand of the Wildcats (7-5, 6-1) scored 14 of his 22 points in the second half and finished with nine assists.

Mike Samuels added 11 rebounds for W-C, which started the season 0-4. The Wildcats entered the night tied with Almira/Coulee-Hartline, which played a non-league game.

The Falcons dropped to 8-5, 3-2, giving Valley Christian a 2-game lead in the East.

Michael Spuler scored 13 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, including a 3-pointer and jumper to snap a 40-all tie, as the eighth-ranked Panthers (11-1, 6-0) defeated the host Broncos (6-6, 4-4) for their ninth consecutive win.

Ritzville’s Dustan Arlt scored 22, the fourth time in the last five games he has scored 22 or more.

Brad Wiman scored 26, giving him 47 for the weekend, and the visiting Lancers (2-9, 1-5) used a 9-0 run to open the second quarter to defeat the Patriots (5-7, 1-7) at Edwall and end a six-game losing streak.

Jake Holling added six assists, five rebounds and four steals for Liberty, which hit five 3-pointers.

Joe Bell of CH scored 28 on 10-for-23 shooting from the field. The Patriots lost Brett Bishop and Kyle Hattenburg to fouls early in the second half.

Kris Kuchenmeister had nine rebounds, three blocked shots and hit 6 of 11 from the floor as the Tigers (8-3, 7-1) knocked the visiting Rangers (9-3, 6-2) out of first place in the South Division.

Kenny Gliddon added eight rebounds, and Chad Dinkins and Danny Hanks combined for nine assists for Republic. Selkirk shot 33 percent from the floor.

Republic held Russell Lopes (15 ppg) and Sheridan Pyeatt (14 ppg) to a combined two points. The Rangers sat Tim Farris (11 ppg) for disciplinary reasons.

Dan Dhillon added five assists and four steals, and Ryan Thomsen and John Witherspoon five rebounds apiece for St. George’s.

Mark Strickler had 13 rebounds for Columbia, which held a 25-15 second-half edge on the boards. Columbia’s previous win was Jan. 31, 1997, against Inchelium.

B.J. McIntosh’s layup with two minutes left led to a 44-42 lead, and Greg Whitman’s offensive rebound with five seconds left preserved a win as the Tigercats (3-9, 1-1) edged the Nighthawks (6-4, 1-1) at Washtucna to snap a nine-game losing streak.

The Tigercats trailed by 10 in the third quarter. They led 46-42 on Dustin Colter’s basket, before T-O’s Patrick Heaton hit a 3-pointer with a minute left.

L-W’s Derek Henley then hit the front end of a 1-and-1, and Whitman grabbed the rebound when Henley’s second try missed.
