Thomas Kilgore scored a season high 21 points as California used an early second-half surge to defeat Washington State 86-75 on Saturday night in Pullman.

The Golden Bears (7-8, 3-4 Pacific-10 Conference) led 31-29 at the half and outscored Washington State 21-12 in the opening eight minutes of the second half.

The Cougars (8-10, 1-6) closed the margin to six points, 56-50, with 8:40 remaining after Chris Crosby hit two consecutive baskets.

The Golden Bears responded with a 12-4 run that put them ahead 68-54 with 5:38 to go. Washington State got no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Washington State, which lost for the sixth time in seven games, was led by Carlos Daniel and Kab Kazadi, both with 17 points. Blake Pengelly and Steve Slotemaker each added 11.

San Diego 84, Gonzaga 83

In San Diego, Brian Miles scored a career high 32 points and freshman Dana White hit an off-balance 8-footer with 1 second remaining to stop the Bulldogs.

White, a 6-foot guard, took the ball the length of the floor after a timeout and had the ball knocked away in traffic. White, who scored seven points, picked up the loose ball and split two defenders to hit the game-winner.

The victory broke a five-game losing streak for San Diego (9-9, 1-5 in West Coast Conference).

Gonzaga (15-6, 4-2) took the lead with 13 seconds left at 83-82 on Bakari Hendrix’s baseline jumper.
