Kehoe’s Ohio Attorney Wants Delay, New Venue

From Staff And Wire Reports

An attorney said he wants to delay and move the trial of Chevie Kehoe, who faces charges linked to a videotaped shootout with police.

Assistant State Public Defender Kort Gatterdam said he requested the delay after reports linked Kehoe, 24, to the bombing of a federal building. Kehoe is scheduled to go on trial Feb. 23 in Clinton County Common Pleas Court.

Gatterdam also said he wants the trial moved from this southwestern Ohio town.

“What we’re saying is that now, it’s less likely that my client is going to get a fair trial…in Clinton County,” he told The Cincinnati Enquirer for a story Saturday.

Gatterdam could not be reached for comment Saturday because the phone at the state public defender’s office was not answered.

Kehoe and his brother, Cheyne, both of Colville, Wash., got into a skirmish with authorities Feb. 15 that was videotaped by a camera in a state trooper’s cruiser.

The FBI said Wednesday it wants to interview Cheyne Kehoe as soon as possible about the claim he made that his brother was involved in the bombing of a federal building. Cheyne Kehoe did not identify the building but investigators want to know if there is any connection to the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City.

Cheyne Kehoe made the statement to reporters after he was sentenced to 25-1/2 years in prison on charges of attempted murder, felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon for his part in the Feb. 15 gunfight.
