Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: A handy hint for tax time is to always start a new checkbook log on Jan. 1 and end it on Dec. 31, so you can file the whole thing in that year’s income-tax file.

A checkbook is a precise record of all charitable contributions, payments to doctor’s offices, church offerings and even some special family occasions that you wrote a check for. If you can remember the month and not the year, you only have to pull the log out of your tax file for each year and check that month’s entries.

Once a month or so, highlight the tax-deductible checks, tuition payments or anything you might want to find more easily later on. Sure helps me. - Shirley Schulay, Warren, Ohio xxxx
