Nfl Champions Sign Ex-UI Star Nussmeier

Former University of Idaho quarterback Doug Nussmeier, a backup the past four years at New Orleans, has agreed to a one-year, $325,000 contract with the Denver Broncos.

Denver starter John Elway, 37, has not made a decision on whether he will return for another season after winning the Super Bowl in January and his heir-apparent, Jeff Lewis, underwent reconstructive knee surgery late last month.

Nussmeier - a 6-foot-3, 211-pound 1994 fourth-round draft pick of New Orleans - started one game last season for the Saints. He did not fit into the long-term plans of coach Mike Ditka.
