‘Dark City’ Has Dark, Sinister Style

In his first film, “The Crow,” Alex Proyas brought a dark comic-book hero to the big screen. The result was all atmosphere, all violence pretense. In “Dark City,” Proyas delves into the study of human longing. He does it with sci-fi predictability, using leather-coated aliens who resemble Uncle Fester Addams. But he does it with style, eventually trading the sinister feel of darkness for the kind of brightness found only at beach central. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Photo
