Glacier Lookout To Get Facelift

Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park’s historic Mount Brown Lookout is scheduled to received a badly needed facelift thanks to donations by nonprofit groups.

Built in 1928, Mount Brown Lookout, an unaltered 14-by-14-foot, clapboard-sided, two-story structure, originally was part of a network of fire lookouts built throughout the park and the adjoining Flathead National Forest. Nowadays, fire fighters rely mostly on aerial monitoring of forests.

The lookout, at elevation 7,487 feet, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
